Energy & Environment

Our energy and environmental policy experts have 35 years of collective experience. We have worked with policymakers at federal and state levels to implement policies that encourage the research, development and deployment of green technologies. We have especially strong experience in renewable power generation, fuels, recycling, and transportation technologies. We guide our clients in the green tech world by tracking policy, analyzing, and developing legislation, federal program opportunities, and solicitations. Our primary goal is to position clients as thought leaders before the U.S. Congress, state legislatures, and federal and state regulatory agencies. We also extend our clients’ capabilities by encouraging alignments with like-minded associations, coalitions, and non-governmental organizations.

SPG has represented clients across the financial services industry from credit unions, community banks, and private equity to fintech startups, insurance companies, and mortgage lenders. Our knowledge and expertise comes from working directly on the key pieces of legislation that govern the industry from the Dodd-Frank Act to Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act to the Grimm-Waters Act. SPG has a presence on Capitol Hill and is known within the Financial Services, Banking, Ways and Means, and Finance committees. We have also had success helping our clients navigate myriad federal agencies overseeing the industry by utilizing our relationships at Treasury, FHFA, CFPB, SEC, and CFTC.

SMART Policy Group staff has direct experience in advocating for internet commerce and information technology organizations in the federal, state, and local government arenas. With many of the provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act still being enacted, it’s more important than ever to provide counsel to our clients ensuring they understand the new tax code and are able to capitalize on the opportunities it may provide. We have also provided our clients with expert advice on how to deal with the tax implications of the COVID relief packages, the Paycheck Protection Program, and the Main Street Lending Program.
